September 2016   Here it is ..... the Collage of the 30 paintings that I painted this month.

Day 21 12"x12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. There were just a few clouds in the sky

and the scene was set with the still water and reflection of the buildings. Urban Horizon -

Day 18   12"x12" acrylics on acrylic paper, block print. All that remains now are the dried flowers and stems. Queen Anne's Lace by the Shore.

Day 17  12"x12"  Acrylics on acrylic paper. The high horizon allows for the reflection of the buildings and tall grasses at the edge of the pond. Urban Horizon - Abstract.

Day 16 jvmclean Urban Horizon - Sunset Revisited

Day 16   12"x12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. I thought this needed a redo, so here is another version

of yesterday's scene. After a wash of Payne's Grey mixed with titanium white over the whole page was dry I proceeded to paint the sky in more muted tones with a mix of magenta, cad. med light and titanium white. I like this one too!

Day 13  12"x12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. As the season winds down the Day Lilies are still bright and colourful.

Day 11 12"x 12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. The light at noon created a bright fortress light image with the reflection on the water.  Urban Horizon #3 Mid Day.

Day 10    12"x 12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. The berries showed up nicely in the cool dark forest as I walked through.

Day 7  12"x12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. This is a favorite place to walk near the pond and the twilight reflection caught my eye.  Urban Horizon #1. Twilight.

Day 6   Silhouette #2      12"x12" acrylics on acrylic paper. This is an attempt at creating the silhouette of the flowers against the background of the sky and pond.

Day 5   12" x 12"  Acrylics and acrylic ink on acrylic paper. The sunlight landed on this vine beside the path that caught my attention. 'The Vine.'

Day 4   12 x 12  Acrylics on acrylic paper. I did a couple of thin washes for the background. Then I used thick lines and more washes to bring the leaves forward. Take it or leaf it!

Day 3  Simply Stated    12" x 12" acrylics on acrylic paper. Out on my walk this morning I noticed some leaves are on the edge of turning or have already. This little sketch is simply stating the fact that change is on the way.

Day 2 Wild Berries

Day 2  12" x 12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. The sunlight was streaming through the trees. I tried to capture the backlight landing on the leaves and berries.

Day 1 Silhouette

Day 1    Welcome to the 30 in 30 Challenge. I'm so excited to be participating once again. It is a busy time but will try to post everyday.

12" x  12"  Acrylics and prismcolor marker on acrylic paper. I did a couple of washes for a water colour effect and used the marker to draw on the silhouette of the Queen Anne's Lace.

Be Mine

  Be Mine  12 x12 mixed media on gallery depth canvas. This is another reworked canvas from the 30 day challenge last month. Great reds, lots of cadmium red light, cad. orange, alizarin crimson and magenta. Also there is a lot of texture and many other colours under the reds.

The Sky is the Limit

The Sky is the Limit       12 x 24 mixed media on reg. canvas. This is a painting that I reworked from the recent 30 day challenge. It was fun changing this canvas from ocean waves to a multi coloured abstract.

30 Day Challenge Collage  Here is the collection of work I've painted over the last month. It was challenging some days to finish a painting and post it. Mostly I used the natural environment for inspiration and took photos. Ideas evolved as the days went by.

Day 30 Frost Forest #3

Day 30  Frost Forest #3   12 x 12 mixed media on canvas board. Staying true to my theme of sky, land, water and all things frosty here is my last piece for this challenge. Thank you Leslie for hosting this challenge. It was great!

Day 29 The Pond Revisited

Day 29 The Pond Revisited  11 x 14  Acrylics on Masonite board. I choose a different palette and worked with a two inch wide brush for this exercise. However, I did use a palette knife to finish up with. A much different look to the pond this time than earlier in the challenge.

Day 28 Graffiti Train

Day 28 Graffiti Train     12 x 12 mixed media on canvas board. We can only see the train in the distance moving along the shoreline but some of the rail cars are covered with graffiti. Ok, so where is the train you ask? The train is in the texture and the burnt sienna on the shore line. But I have sat for 20 minutes at the crossing down the way and watched the graffiti cars go by.

Day 27 Abstract Landscape  12x12 mixed media on reg. canvas board. Lots of texture and colour buried in there.

Day 26 Thaw

Day 26  Thaw   12x12 on reg. stretched canvas. The temperature came up 15 degrees today. Everything is melting......it's like being in a scene from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Edmond is riding along with the White Witch in the sledge and all of a sudden they come to a grinding halt on the rocks. Aslan had returned! This palette is not what I had in mind but the purples, blues and golds compliment.

Day 25 Golden Brook Revisited

Day 25 Golden Brook Revisited 12 x 12 acrylics on reg. stretched canvas. Yes, the water has a golden hue. I painted this scene earlier in the challenge and wanted to see if I could improve on what I did the first time. The water flows down over different levels of rocks and has a couple of quiet pools too.

Day 24 Shoreline Abstract

Day 24 Shoreline Abstract    6x6 acrylics on canvas board. I started laying in the colour uncertain of my palette. However, it came together and gives the impression of the shoreline with reflections and ice and snow.

Day 23 High Tide at Peggy's Cove

Day 23 High Tide at Peggy's Cove 12 x 24 Acrylics on reg. canvas. My son and I took a little day trip to Peggy's Cove. A small fishing village famous for it's colourful houses, boats and light house. However, we were more fascinated with the waves coming in. The North Atlantic is high and mighty.

Day 22  Tree Abstract #2   4x12 on gallery depth canvas. A mate to yesterday's entry. The sunlight behind the trees was creating a glow.

Day 21 Tree Abstract #1    4x12 acrylics on gallery depth canvas. The sun was glowing behind the trees. The challenge today was to create that light and give depth to the scene.

Day 20 A Stream Runs Through

Day 20 A Stream Runs Through 8x8 acrylics on canvas panel. A small stream runs through our property. I love this corner and tried to capture the depth of the scene.

Day 19 jvm The Pond

Day 19  The Pond   8x8  Acrylics on canvas panel. The objective was to capture the sheen and colour of the ice. Even though this little pond is frozen over it is so full of life. I look forward to the concert in the Spring!

Day 17 Silver's Forest

Day 17  Silver's Forest  4x12 acrylics on gallery depth canvas. This was inspired by the trees deep in the woods near our home. It is dedicated to my dog who loves the snow.

Day 16 jvmclean Ice Flow 12x24  acrylics on reg. canvas. The lake is partially frozen over and the water and ice are constantly changing and providing great colours and lines.

Day 15 jvmclean  Majestic Forest  6x6 mixed media on canvas panel. I intended to paint a whole winter scene here. The little voice inside my head was yelling, 'Stop, don't do any more!'
