 Here is my collage of some of the paintings from the challenge. I believe that I've been successful with my theme of design and line in the winter landscape. I've tried a number of different techniques and colour palettes.  Please scroll back on my blog to see all entries.

jvmclean Happy Hour

Day 30 12"x 12" Mixed media on acrylic paper. Here it is, the last painting of the challenge. As usual the paint was still drying as I ran to take a quick photo and post. I had laid the modeling paste on a couple of days ago so it was ready when I needed it. I tried to capture the sun fading down behind the snow covered trees. I love that time of day...... 'Happy Hour'
In this challenge every painting had to do with line and design in the winter landscape and I worked from photos taken out on my daily dog walks. I tried a number of different techniques and colour palettes that I don't usually work with.

Day 29  12"x12" Mixed media on acrylic paper. This turned out differently than I expected. The late afternoon sun cast long shadows through the trees onto the snow and pathway.Pathway

Day 28 Mixed Media on acrylic paper. There was a lovely band of pale viridian behind the trees on the edge of the field. Sky, trees and snow..........Viridian Sky.

Day 27 Mixed media on canvas paper. This one has layers of modeling paste and paint. My interpretation is that of a snow blasted landscape. Winter Blast.

Day 26  12 x 12 mixed media on acrylic paper. This was fun and difficult at the same time. Abstract painting involves a lot of thinking and this gave me a headache. But I do have my impact area, lots of variation in colour and lots of texture. Glazed Forest.

jvmclean Red Farm

Day 23  12" x 12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. It has been gray and overcast for days and the bright sky and shadows are not there. This old farm on the edge of the city caught my eye and deserved to be painted. The colour of the red brick house and red barns made a great contrast against the pale sky and snow. Red Farm

Day 21  Mixed Media on acrylic paper. On occasion we get to see to the night sky light up with an Aurora Borealis. It is spectacular. And so continues my line and design in the winter landscape.

jvmclean Bright Horizon

Day 20 12" x 12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. I did this in 10 minutes, pressed for time today. The sky and road were grey and the forest dark on both sides and gave way to the bright sky on the horizon. This gave my hope that the snow will be gone soon and Spring is on the way. Bright Horizon.

Day 19 12"x 12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. This turned into a semi abstract but at the same time it captures the look of fresh snow and ice on the trees. This is a small park where we walk often.

Day 18   12x12  Acrylics on acrylic paper. My theme is design and line in the winter landscape and I'm amazed at all the lines and layers of colour that is exist out there. Winterscape.

Day 15  12"x 12" Mixed media on canvas paper. The small stream on the edge of the fields looked deep and had great reflections. On the Edge.

Day 14    12" x 12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. I like the frosty cloudy sky and also the frosty barren trees. This is successful in some regards. Winterlude Abstract 2.

Day 13  12"x 12"Yep, I know.This is a shift from what I've been working on in terms of the winter landscape. However, it remains true to design and line and all things frosty & snowy. Winterlude Abstract.

Day 12   9 x 14   Acrylics on masonite panel. I revisited this site again and realized the trees are Poplar trees not Birch. I like calling them Birch anyway. Birch Grove 2.

Day 11  9"x 14" Acrylics on masonite panel. The birch trees were so stunning all lined up in the snow that I just had to paint them. Line and design in the winter landscape. Birch Grove.

Day 10 12" x 12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. In this scene the sky and clouds presented layers of silvery gray. The trees in the distance were also various shades of blue gray. The trees coming forward were darker shades of which Raw Umber and Prussian blue worked nicely. Silvery Day

Day 9 12" x 12" Acrylics on acrylic paper. This is an attempt to capture the look of the late afternoon sun and shadows cast by the fence posts and tracks on the snow. Late Afternoon at the Park.

Day 8  12" x 12"  Acrylics on acrylic paper.  The pond is not frozen over and the reflections of the trees, houses and snow created a somewhat mono chromatic scene.  Open Water.

Day 7  12" x 12" acrylics on acrylic paper. You know that sinking feeling you get when a painting just doesn't turn out the way you want it to? Well here it is! However, I do like the texture that I ended up with.  The sun was sinking low behind the cedar trees.   Cedar Grove.

Day 3   12" x 12"  Acrylics on acrylic paper. The second painting of this triptych subtly shows the sunlight on the snowy fields. The high horizon allows the fields to come forward and give depth.

Day 1  Hi and welcome to 2017. I am happy to be participating in another 30 day challenge. It is a challenge to pull off a painting a day because life gets in the way.
